Vol.79 Typography and Hand Lettering issue
This feature on the theme of letter design is actually our previous typography issue in four years and a half. We have four categories this time, from “fashion” typography both subtle and bold to handmade “sign painting” full of personality, creative “art” found in street and spaces, and “typography + photography”, a mixture of letters and photos that has been garnering attention in recent years in arenas such as Instagram. Aside from showing off a selection of highly diverse typographical work, we want to put the focus on lettering done by hand, making this an issue for experiencing the workspaces, implements, rough sketches, and everything else that goes into the work of these creators.
前回のタイポグラフィー特集から実に4年半振りとなる、「文字のデザイン」をテーマにした今号では、繊細かつ大胆な文字表現が特徴の「Fashion」、描き手の個性が表れる「Sign Painting」、ストリートから空間まで創造性豊かで芸術性の高い「Art」、近年インスタグラムでも注目を集める文字と写真を織り交ぜた「Typography + Photography」という、異なる4つのジャンルに分類して紹介する。多種多様な文字作品を披露するだけではなく、今回は手描きによるレタリングに焦点を当て、彼らが描いている風景や道具、ラフ・スケッチなど、制作の背景まで感じられる1冊となっている。
