Vol.41 Soundscape issue

Sound creators make music that is often accompanied by entire worlds, while designers take part in this soundscape by presenting the visually through graphic art and videos. With music's values becoming increasingly uncertain as online distribution comes to the forefront, just how important are visuals like these going to remain? This issue we talked with both musical and visual creators and delve into the soundscapes they create and the future of the music industry. Our opening article presents interviews with musicians with unique perspective and the up-and-coming designers who work on their visual production. Then in our first feature we introduce several noted labels from around the world that are deeply committed to both their music and graphic art. The second half of the issue is a three-part report on packaging design that consists of pieces on artists who have been working on album sleeves for the same musician for many years, highly memorable jackets released since 1990, and packages that incorporate special production. The cover features artwork modeled after the grooves of a record by Trevor Jackson.
