The Space Craft studio and print workshop is located in the heart of Melbourne, and features an oasis-like garden dominated by native Australian trees and plants, especially the fragrance of the soaring lemon eucalyptus. Working in such an environment is very important for us. We feel inspired by the living plants and trees, and utilize such natural images as design motifs.
The Space Craft carrier bag designed by Stewart Russell is a remake of the standard plastic bags found at supermarkets, in original fabric. The design of plastic shopping bags is perfectly functional as it is, but from an environmental viewpoint, we wanted to make something that was not for immediate disposal but instead made of strong material, and was also stylish and low-cost. Carrier bags are not only perfect in appearance and for shopping, they are also suitable for the mechanism of local supermarket staff putting the bought items into the bag at the check-out counter.
